The Village

Surrounded by cherry and almond orchards, vineyards and olive groves, Kirazli sits in a valley at the base of the pine clad mountains of the National Park. The year still revolves around the harvest culminating in June with the cherry festival.

The bustling centre of Kusadasi is on the coast, about 15 minutes away and provides all the amenities of a modern tourist centre: beaches, water parks, boats for hire, markets, fish market, restaurants and the bazaar.

To the south is the large National Park with pristine beaches and in this unspoilt paradise are many species of birds and even wild boar and leopard. Inland, the beautiful Meander Valley extends towards the travetine deposits of Pammukkalle.

Archaeological Sites

Less than 15 minutes away are the ruins of Ephesus. Here too are the scant remains of the great temple of Artemis - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. At nearby Selcuk are the remains of an aquaduct, the early Byzantine Basilica of St John and an excellent museum.

On a pine shaded hillside above Ephesus, is a small Byzantine church, which according to tradition was the site of the final home of Mary the mother of Jesus.

About 30km to the south, are the lovely ruins of Priene, dominated by the beautiful temple of Athena. A little to the south (15kms) are the remains of Miletos, whose theatre held 25,000 people. Beyond that, at Didyma, is the great oracular temple of Apollo.

Half an hour to the east of Kirazli lie the ruins of Magnesia on the Meander and there are many other sites such as Tralles and Nysa. It is only a day trip to Aphrodisias and Hierapolis (Pammukkale).
